It's a few years since I last photographed a wedding at Oakley Hall, a magnificent Georgian manor house near Basingstoke in Hampshire which is now a 4 star hotel. So I was glad to be asked back to photograph Jessica and Andre's wedding there as there is huge opportunity for photography in the beautiful landscaped gardens.
The day began at Jessica's family home in Sussex where, by Chinese tradition, the groom arrives in the morning to collect his bride and conduct a traditional ceremony of offering tea to the parents and grandparents in exchange for gifts. After the drive to Oakley Hall there were further tea ceremonies with other family members and then a chance to take some pictures of the couple in the grounds of the venue in their traditional Chinese wedding outfits.
A change of outfit for the ceremony and Jessica wore a white wedding dress, tailor-made by Andre's father. Afterwards the couple emerged into a volley of confetti from their guests and canapés and drinks were served on the Terrace. This is the moment where I take the bride and groom off for a short wander for photographs. The gardens at Oakley Hall are lovely and I had chosen a couple of places for portraits, so I did not have to keep them from the party for too long.
Jessica and Andre kicked the party off with a spectacular first dance and the dance floor was full for the rest of the evening. This was a really enjoyable wedding and a great pleasure to get to know Jessica and Andre and their friends and family.
From Jessica and Andre:
"...the photos are amazing! We cannot wait to see the rest - it's brought back great memories of the day. Thank you so much!"
