Back Garden Wedding Photography

I've photographed many weddings in back gardens - but normally there is a marquee! Not this time - an open-air wedding with no wet weather option! Just the back garden of the couple's cottage in the beautiful village of Breadsall in Derbyshire. Lauren and Nathan put all their faith in the August weather and their gamble paid off, but only just - the day before had been torrential rain all day long!

After getting ready at home, Lauren walked the short distance through the village to the church for the marriage service. As newlyweds they were showered with confetti as they left the church. We then spent a short time taking some natural portraits nearby, before joining the garden party. Such a wonderfully relaxed day - the catering was courtesy of the local fish and chip van, followed by a huge array of home-baked cakes! As the sun set the music was cranked up for the first dance - under fairy lights in the garden with the guests waving sparklers. It was a spectacular moment! The party continued late into the night under the stars.

It was lovely to photograph this wedding, thanks so much Lauren and Nathan for asking me along to photograph it for you. This is what Lauren had to say:

Nick came highly recommended and his portfolio matched the style of photos we were hoping for. He was a perfect fit. We had a relaxed style wedding with the reception in our garden. We fully decorated the garden with fairy lights, bunting, flowers, hay bales, a fish and chip van, a sweetie cart and our very own pub shed. Nick captured every single little detail of the day and the photos truly show the story of our special day. Nick was also fantastic at hiding in the background and taking photos without people even noticing. The detail and special moments captured were amazing!”

Hey Nick,

Was just having a gander through your blog and this entry caught my attention. I love how you captured this wedding! The second sparkler shot is breathtaking. What lens did you take it on?
